A new experience every day indeed!

Restaurant Veranda is a trendy but friendly restaurant in the heart of Herakion.

Located on the second floor of a building next to the Morozini Fountain.

Wonderful views on the main fountain of Herakion. I would recommend making a reservation if you want to sit somewhere with a good view of the fontain. It is very pleasant to see the locals and tourists have fun. However without being annoyed by them being too overwhelming or present.

Very authentic cocktails. I have had my fare share of cocktails during the last couple of years (trying to make up a little bit for the lost time since I was hardly drinking during university). Usually sticking to either Aperol Spritz or a good old Mojito. However, this time I wanted to try some of the signature cocktails from Veranda since I was staying in the Dimargio ***** hotel which was only five minutes by foot.

For my first cocktail I choose: Zuma Zu. I don’t know the meaning, but I do know the cocktail tasted amazing. A good start of the evening. It was accompanied by a small individually packed container with some cocktailnuts. Very similar to the “borrelnootjes” that we have in the Netherlands. These things just get me :)

For my second cocktail I choose Matador, which sounds more Spanish than Greek. But hey, the cocktail was way better than what I expected from a cocktail with wine and passionfruit purree and some other interesting ingredients.

Morozini Fountain with Restaurant in the back

For non-meat lovers: there is a special vegan menu. They will ask for it upon arrival.

A lot of good vegetarian options as well.

The ambiance is calm. Lots of nice decorations make it feel more trendy. The young locals do know to find this place. I definitely understand.

For more comfort, during the colder times there are heaters. Since it is more a roofed terrace than an indoor restaurant. I really do like the feeling of both sitting inside as outside. What more to do want!

And last but not least. A delicious desert that I thought I could not pronounce the name of after seeing it on the menu again and after eating it a couple of days before.

But cheers to the internet: behold the famous MIZITHROPITES or Cretan cheese pies for non-Greek speakers. Although, it is not actually cheese inside. The best way to explain these yummy pies is that it is fried dough filled with sweet condensed milk. Topped with some local honey and in this case also cinnamon.

A good ending of the day I would say!
